Drug Detox Center
In 2015 over 50,000 people in the United States died from drug overdose related deaths. This was the first time in American history that deaths related to drugs surpassed that of firearm related deaths, causing overdoses to be the number 1 reason for unintentional death in this country.
As stark as these numbers are, they are only part of a larger narrative of drug dependence that has swept this nation over the past 15 years. This new wave of drug dependence has been in part caused by the proliferation of such drugs as Oxycontin and other opioid-based substances and their spread has caused chaos and tragedy in many American communities.
People who would not have otherwise been introduced to these powerful substances, became addicted after being prescribed them by their doctors, and the ease in which people could get their hands on pain medication, created a whole new market for opioid based drugs, the likes of which had been seen before. Many people found themselves within the grip of addiction before they even knew what was happening and right around the time this occurred the government stepped in and implemented greater controls for prescribing opioid pain medication, causing millions of Americans to find their fix elsewhere.
Some of these people were able to break the cycle of addiction when this occurred, but many more were forced to turn to illicit substances like heroin because they either could not support their habit, or their initial drug of choice was just not readily available any longer. With more and more people turning to illegal opiates, peddlers of these illegal narcotics looked for ways to increase their profit margins and so they started to “cut” the narcotic with cheaper synthesized opioids like fentanyl and its derivatives.
This resulted in the death of thousands of people, and the near fatal overdose of millions more because the fentanyl that these drugs were cut with were often times much stronger than the substance they were being mixed with.
During this same time, new “designer drugs” and synthetic alternatives began to make their way onto American streets. Drugs like Flakka, Bath Salts, and Spice became more and more popular due to the fact that they were readily available on-line or in local head shops, and for a time the Government seemed at odds with how to deal with the problem.
In the past ten years we have also seen marijuana addiction double in this country, and the effects that legalization has had and will have in the future remains to be seen, but what all of this means is that there is a need within the United States for proper drug treatment. We need more access to education and prevention and when that fails to reach an individual, they need access to the sort of drug treatment that can truly give them the help and support they need.
At Restore Detox Centers we understand this, and we understand that having a safe detoxification process is the first step in recovery. At our Poway, California Drug Detox Center, we seek to offer you a safe space in which you can experience this early stage of recovery and our trained staff seeks to make the often-uncomfortable experience of withdrawals, as painless and comfortable as possible.
What is Drug Detox?
Drug Detox like the one offered at our Poway, California Drug Detox Center, is the process of allowing any and all illicit substances to leave the body and mind of an individual, so that they can move forward with their recovery completely free from drugs and alcohol. This is the first step in recovery because it is impossible for a person to experience the necessary changes to overcome their addiction while they still have drugs in their system, and so our Poway, California Drug Detox center, located just north of San Diego, is designed to help with this process.
Why Do People Need Detox?
The reasons that an individual would need to attend a detox , like our Poway, California Drug Detox Center vary depending on the substance they are dependent on and how long they have been dependent for. Some drug withdrawal symptoms, like alcohol or benzodiazepines, can actually be fatal if proper medical supervision is not followed. Individuals who are attempting to quit these drugs should never attempt to do so on their own, because they could suffer a seizure or some other serious medical complication that could result in their death.
Beyond the serious medical implications of attempting to detox from drugs on your own, doing so can also result in a relapse, due to the fact that the draw back to the drugs is too strong and supports are not in place to help prevent this. Many people who eventually make it to our Poway California, Drug Detox Center say that they have in the past attempted numerous times to stop on their own, but what they found is that after a few days they were unable to combat the urge to use, and hoping to quell the physical symptoms of withdrawal, they returned to drug usage.
At our Poway California, Drug Detox Center we understand this and so first and foremost our goal is to offer our clients a safe space in which they can experience their withdrawals symptoms, giving them the support and medical aid they need in order to make it through their trying time.
We understand that going away to detox can be a frightening decision to make, as you are leaving behind a life you know, that of drug and alcohol dependence, for an unknown sober life. We understand that the prospect of having to deal with withdrawal symptoms can truly be overwhelming, but with this knowledge in mind, we have created a program for drug detox that we believe can help you on your journey towards long-term sobriety.
